he lived his life. we get his story tonight from nbc's katy tur. >> reporter: more than 100 police officers from ridgewood this morning. they came to honor michael feeney. known around here as chief feeney. >> you know when you see people like this, they are the best of our family. >> reporter: michael back in june took on the chiefly duties of reviewing the dispatch, signing mountains of forms and making sure pesky sisters are locked up. last week, michael lost his four-year battle with a rare form of bone cancer, and though his short life was plagued with exhausting treatments, those who loved michael said nothing could dampen his spirit. >> michael was able to touch in his short ten years more than most of us ever will in a hundred. >> he loved the giants, yankees, and politics. he even got advice from his mayor on his stump speech for class president. tod the day was the best for michael ever. >> none of us know how to live in the moment, maybe we need to look at kids. because he was just living in the moment. >> reporter: to ensure michael would get to celebrate the holiday, n

morning fire at a san jose mobile park. it started shortly after 2:00 a.m.. ktvu katie utehs is telling us crews are looking for the man that lived in the burning mobile home. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, brian. i spoke to a neighbor that helped the elderly man jump start his car yesterday. that may be the last time anybody saw this man. let me show you video we took 15 minutes ago as fire investigators take their first look inside the mobile home. its located in casa elle han doctor mobile home park. people started calling 911 shortly after 2:00 this morning as smoke and flames could be seen from the freeway. fire crews responded to a fully engulfed mobile home. now the crews have put the fire out. they are trying to locate the man that lives here. they are in his 70s and don't have a cell phone number to reach him. >> we are not sure about the occupant. >> reporter: the neighbor i spoke with said he helped the man start his car so he could go to work. he also said that the man may have had a daughter living with him but that daughter moved out about a month ago. so again fire

and firefighters still have not located the elderly man who lives in the unit. ktvu's katie utehs is live on the scene with the new information about this mobile park. good morning, katie. >> reporter: good morning, tori. i just got off the phone with san jose fire's public information officer. he says now that it is daylight, the plan to move forward, research this mobile home. as you can see, it's completely gutted. early this morning they got through 80% of the home. they still need to search through the kitchen. they hope that will give them more identification or contact info as they try to find the elderly man who lived here. they do not believe he was home at the time of the fire. let me show you some video and some pictures of the flames and smoke coming from the mobile home at casa mobile home park along monterey in san jose. the smoke could be seen with 101 -- could be seen from 101. the mobile home where the fire started is completely destroyed, as you've seen. they walked through the gutted home and believe the elderly homeowner was not in the unit at the time. they are still

that lived in that unit. katie utehs is there. what is the latest on that search with the homeowner? >> reporter: dave, i have a call into san jose public information officer to see if they are any closer to locating this elderly man. at this point i have not heard back. investigators have walked through the mop bill home behind me. as you can see it is completely gutted. but the good news they do not believe anybody was home at the time of the fire. let me show you photos that firefighters snapped this morning as they arrived shortly after 2:00. flames and smoke could be seen from 101 as the unit burned. firefighters are unsure what caused the mobile home fire and they do not think the owner was home at the time. believed to be a 70-year-old man. they do see an increase until fires this time of year when temperatures drop and people try to stay warm. fire department is always looking out for people. making sure they are careful with space heaters. >> i spoke with a neighbor who says he helped the elderly homeowner jump start his car yesterday. pg&e has turned off power to this mobi
